Muku Moves to Media Temple
In case anyone visited Muku last week and was welcomed with a beautiful blank page, our hosting service was down. I used 1and1 hosting and was no stranger to it going down for an hour or 2 every now and then, which was enough to be upsetting. However, this time our hosting was down for 4 days. For an online company that hosts clients websites and relies on our own website to bring in work and new clients, 4 days of no hosting is unacceptable.
Jana and I were in Maui last week for a little business and relaxation when our hosting decided to crash. So, what should have been a relaxing week was flooded with calls from clients asking why their websites were down, and there was nothing I could do. We were at the mercy of the hosting service. I called 1and1 several times and they gave me a rehearsed speech each time and said they would email me when the hosting was working again. That wasn’t very helpful. When I asked why the service went down in the first place, they said it was because an influx of traffic. So, at the time when I needed Muku up the most, it was down for 4 days. It was more than I could take.
I’ve been considering Media Temple for quite some time. I have friends that use the hosting service and have heard nothing but good things about the company and their customer service. With my hosting down for 4 days, it was the final push I needed to make the switch, and it was a great decision. Media Temple’s interface is so much easier to use (and beautifully designed) than hosting services such as 1and1 or GoDaddy. Their customer service is very helpful, knowledgeable and there’s no language barrier. If you’ve been considering a hosting service, I highly recommend Media Temple. The service costs a few dollars more a month than hosting giants like 1and1 and GoDaddy, but those few dollars will be saved in ease of use, reliability and helpful customer service. Also, be sure to search for special offer codes before you sign up and you can save even more on a great service. Save yourself the trouble of what I went through and make the switch to Media Temple now.

i agree! i have been with Media Temple for 2 years now and I don’t have 1 single complaint. Welcome to the club…:)
Media Temple has served me well for many years (coming on 7 now).
One advantage, which may not be true for everyone, but when they upped their servers and no longer provided smaller packages, they upgraded me without charging me extra. Great guys. I couldn’t imagine ever switching.
Media Temple dissapointed me. Probably cause I am from Canada, but the speed was so slow from here to there. Its frustrating cause whenever I want to setup an add-on domain, I would have to ASK THEM, and they set one up for me as opposed to me setting one up for myself. I hated it.
Great post.. I haven’t used (mt), but seriously considered them when moving our clients to a new hosting platform – experienced something similar with Bluehost.. awful service, worse servers! The reason I didn’t go with (mt) was the constant complaint of arrogant or poor support.. so< I went with Mosso, and haven’t regretted it since. Great company, excellent support – it’s truly unbelievable how fast these guys get answers and solutions to you, via chat, so there’s no wasting time with tickets. Love it.
Anyway, glad to hear (mt) is working well for you.. great site! Came here from one of your client sites – max8media.
We’re in the middle of migrating our business to Media Temple right now. We’ve had one minor glitch- an omission in their otherwise EXCELLENT knowledgebase- but they’ve been helpful in fixing our issue.
So far, I LOVE Media Temple. Doing our Wordpress install right now, and then on to ModX. We’ll see!
